Tax Rates And Maps For The Greater Hickory NC Metro

Welcome to our resource for most things property tax related in the Greater Hickory NC Metro.  This page provides a quick and easy reference for the current property tax rates, as well as links to the online tax map systems for Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, and Alexander counties.

To determine the amount of taxes for owning property you factor the tax value of the property by the combined rate.  The combined rate  is the county rate plus either a municipal or fire district rate.  For example a property located in both Catawba County and the City of Hickory would have a current combined rate of .53 plus .50, or $1.03 per hundred dollars of value.  Note: rates are expressed in millage, or per thousand.  The rate is levied per hundred.  If the property is valued at $100,000 the formula for determining “how much” would be (100000  x .0103), or $1,030 per year.  The same formula applies to titled personal property such as vehicles and watercraft.

Worth noting, the City of Hickory collects taxes on properties within its city limits in Catawba, Burke, & Caldwell counties.  Although the municipal tax rate component remains the same (.50), the county rate, and therefore the combined rate varies.
